Olympic Teamworking
One of the challenges faced by the Olympic project team is in raising their game for the final year of their journey to Friday 3rd August 2012.
For several years people have been working in separate teams where they have created, shaped and developed their ideas, debated with their team members, fallen out and back in with their colleagues, and come to a shared understanding of the right way forward in their specific area. Everyone in the team will know what has been decided and why, and generally agree with the direction and specifics. Teamworking in each department will be well developed and relationships close and supportive.
Now, the agenda is different. Teams now have to focus on working with each other. Teamworking now means something altogether new and bigger. The complexity has grown exponentially and integration has to happen now.
This means that all the hard work of building relationships, generating shared understanding and agreeing the fine detail of plans and approaches has to happen very quickly. There isn’t the usual time for teams to adjust to a new order. They have a deadline and have to step up.
Teamworking is a critical skill. Do your teams have the knowledge and awareness to integrate their work with another overnight? Could your teams meet the Olympic challenge?
